tagore's poem touches heart

ooops!! have been out of action for some time now.... here is something interesting that i recently read.... this is a poem by Shri Rabindranath Tagore and it goes like this-

Incense yearns to disappear in scent,
Scent to cling to incense.
Melody seeks to fetter herself in rhythm,
While the rhythm flows back to melody.
Idea seeks it body in form,
Form its freedom in the idea.
The infinite seeks the touch of the finite,
The finite its release in the infinite.
What drama is this between creation and destruction-
This ceaseless to and fro between idea and form?
Bondage is striving after freedom,
And freedom seeking rest in bondage

An absolutely beautiful verse and poem... it truly touches the heart and soul of a person! If one happens to sit and think on this verse and understands the in-depth meaning of the same, what one realizes/gets is series of astonishing facts and beautiful surprises.....

Hello Anjan,

I am actually not sure about the original bengali poem. I have this book of Shri Rabindranath Tagore's poem translated by Aurobindo Bose. This poem comes at the beginning of the book. Though a mention has been made in the page that this poem served as an introduction to the first edition of the collected works published in 1896. The rest of the poems from the book are from a collection of his various works- Parisesh, Shyamali, Patraput, etc. I feel this poem might be from his book Parisesh (but its only a guess)..
Sorry for not being of much help...

Regards
